Jasper Jules was in our paddock, straining at the fence. Lips a-twitter, reaching, stretching, desperate to taste a tiny morsel of the verdant plentitude, just out of reach. He wanted those blackberry leaves, and wanted them badly.
This went on. For weeks—for months!—he has wanted those brambly thickets, has hungered for them, has lusted after them, has mangled the fence in pursuit of his desire.
"Maaaaaaaah!" he would cry, "Maaaaaaaaah! Let me pass! Let me pass!"
Yesterday, FarmWife took him out the gate, down the lane, 'round the horse-trailer, and back again to the paddock—on the OTHER side of the fence. The towering, delicious, green jungle-side of the fence. She tied him there on a 50 foot rope (temporarily and safely, of course. We are not neglectful tiers in this family) where he could eat to his fat heart's content.
"Maaaaaaaaah," he cried. "Maaaaaaaaaaah! I'm lonely! Let me pass!"
Yes, friends . . . silly Jasper Jules missed the culinary opportunity of a lifetime. He wanted back in the paddock, and he wanted it badly.
Just goes to show that the grass is always greener, as they say, on the other side of the fence.
