Since neither I nor FarmWife need 78 Christmas gifts, we decided to pool our wishing power and collaborate on this Bent Barrowized version of "The 12 Days of Christmas." See if you can sort out which items are on her wish list and which are on mine. It won't be easy—most of the things she wishes for have a great deal to do with me, Fenway Bartholomule.
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
12 tons of gravel,
11 bales of grass hay,
10 Dover gift cards,
9 extra acres,
8 weeks paid vacation,
7 mule-drawn farm tools,
6 maids and nannies,
5 jumps and a ring* . . .
4 lessons per month,
3 carts and carriages,
2 Irish wolfhounds,
and a snug little barn for me!
*an arena, that is

And given your excellent and most entertaining writing skills I think you could easily write a bestseller. Then with a lovely advance for your NEXT bestseller you will be able to purchase "the list." (With the possible exception of an arena if you were hoping for indoor with a reasonable clearspan, that is.)
ReplyDeleteYour version is most excellent, and far superior to the original. I'll be happily singing it in your honor.
